Yoon Sun Choi
A Korean-Canadian improvising vocalist and pianist, Choi has been based in New York City since 2000. Her main musical projects are with her longtime collaborative duo with pianist Jacob Sacks, the YSC Quartet and her new quintet - Advocate as well as her solo voice/piano work. Choi has performed and collaborated with renown artists such as Jane Ira Bloom, Samir Chatterjee, Steve Coleman, Mark Dresser, Mark Elias, Gerry Hemmingway, Darius Jones, D.D. Jackson, Oliver Lake, Mat Maneri, Ben Monder, the Tri-Centric Orchestra, Sarah Weaver, Kenny Werner and Kenny Wheeler. She has performed in some of the finest concert houses and music venues including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Stone, Roulette, The River Theater, Roy Thompson Hall and Carnegie Hall.Choi received a BMus in classical piano and composition at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a BMus in voice and jazz performance at the University of Toronto. She studied voice with Thomas Schilling and piano with Sofia Rosoff.
Amanda Monaco
Guitarist Amanda Monaco has performed at venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Stone, and the Jazz Standard, and with artists such as Milt Hinton and the Mingus Orchestra. She has released eight albums as a leader and is an Associate Professor at Berklee and New England Conservatory.
Caroline Davis
Mobile since her birth in Singapore, composer, saxophonist, and vocalist Caroline Davis’s expression covers a wide range of styles, owed to her shifting environment as a child. As an improviser and saxophonist, she has released six albums under her name and has won Downbeat’s Critic’s Poll Rising Star. Through the years, her work continues to garner praise in domestic and international publications. Her composition work has led her to be a resident fellow at MacDowell, The Jazz Gallery, The Rockefeller Estate, and ICE Ensemble Evolution; and she has been awarded Jerome Hill, CMA, and NYFA fellowships. Her compositions often integrate science and music, influenced by her Ph.D in Music Cognition. Caroline is an advocate for gender equity (This Is A Movement) and prison abolition.
Aubrey Johnson
New York-based vocalist, composer, and educator. Her debut record, Unraveled, featuring her original music and arrangements and produced by Steve Rodby of the Pat Metheny Group, was released on Outside In Music in 2020. Play Favorites, her duo album with the pianist Randy Ingram was released on Sunnyside Records in 2022. Among the 40+ albums Aubrey has appeared on as a sideperson are Bobby McFerrin’s Grammy-nominated release, VOCAbuLaries, Arturo O'Farrill's Grammy Award-winning album Four Questions, and Lyle Mays’ Grammy Award-winning Eberhard. Aubrey holds faculty positions at Montclair State University and Queens College.
